Small Changes in the Kitchen

Earlier I posted about changing my kitchen up a bit and asked for opinions on what to do.

So far I have heard a lot of really great feedback from everyone!

I wanted to share some photos of some of the small things I have done in there in the last week.

Here are some close ups of my collectibles on the shelves next to the sink.

I think it is clear I adore cherubs!
I also have a "thing" for vintage flower frogs.

{I paid $1 each or under for every item on these shelves....I am cheap like that!}
 Shhhhh pay no attention to the dust and specks of greenery on the shelves {I am not much of a duster!}
 Collection of vintage/antique crusty bottles I have picked up here and there.
 Real coral I found in a Goodwill Outlet bin!
 More flower frogs.

 I added the wooden architectural piece above the window. It was a junk piece I picked up for free somewhere years ago and *finally* decided it needed to be hung somewhere.
I like it here, it add something *extra* I think.
 I also switched out the curtain. I wanted something lighter, brighter and airier.
 On top of the cabinets are all of my vintage and antique cake plates. The most expensive one I paid $5 for and it is going for $150 right now on Ebay!

 Counter top "junk"
The crystal bowl with marble base was $3 at a yard sale {I think? I've had it for so long I can barely remember} Apothecary jars were $1 each at yard sale. Notice a trend here? I rarely like to pay over a dollar for small items.
The silver candle holder is one I altered. I glued a glass bobeche to the top and hung crystals from it for added bling.
 The trash can is new as of today. I reaaaaally did not like the ugly plastic one we had and it was too small for the trash bags. The kids would not pay attention and throw food in there, the bag would slide, then I would have to wash out the trash can every single time.

Can a trash can be pretty?

I think this one is. It was $25 from Lowes. All in all...not a bad price.

 Last summer I started collecting vintage bird cages. Now they sit on top of the fridge. I paid $3 for the big one and $1 for the other two.

  2. I love that wood piece over your window and ALL your frogs! Do you like old glass? I know, I know but I had to ask anyway. I picked up a number of piece this summer at a yard sale. Let me e-mail you... it might take me a while as we have to leave to go to a swim meet in a bit and I am about to go take a nap.... my eyes hurt due to allergies. Yep I'm typing with my eyes closed at the moment.... its a "skill" I have brought on by wicked sinus headaches which make my eyes so sore.

    Love all the changes so far!

  4. Oh so pretty! I am drooling over your collection of frogs, well actually I just have a cold virus, but I seriously love them. The footed cake plates are quite the collection too and above cabinets is a great spot for them. I also like finding things for a deal (fits the budget better, right?) and you found some lovely pieces. And I can't leave without saying the old wood piece above the window looks great there. Maybe from an old mirror or something?

  19. Thanks for sharing your kitchen. Plenty of great ideas in there. I have a special appreciation for frogs since I co-own a boutique flower shop. Those prices you paid were just right.Feel like everyone in my neighborhood in NYC gobbles up everything to sell on Ebay. Hard to find those kinds of bargains any more.
