Dining Room Reveal

I woke up this morning intent on at least getting my dining room finished. I was planning to paint the table white just because I like white but suddenly the thought sunk in that I have three kids under the age of ten (this includes the tiny tot terror who has a favorite game of how deep she can gouge her spoon into the table). As much as I love white everywhere it's not practical for a table where small kids eat. It's great for other things that are more easily thrown into the wash....but not a table top. I went with a high gloss black instead. Ever so worried that it wouldn't be what I wanted but I am very happy with it. It's so sleek looking!
So to re-cap: I sold the large obtrusive hutch/cabinet/thingy, painted the walls a Frenchy blue/grey, painted the chairs and buffet white, moved a mirror from my kitchen and also painted it white, replaced the curtains with some cream faux silk, re-covered the dining chairs, painted the table top black and the legs white and moved things around. By selling the hutch top and using things I already had, I actually made money on this project instead of spending it.

  3. Marydon, the florals are all Goodwill Outlet finds. I'm a faux floral junky! My sister says my house looks like spring all year long. I love to save random flowers and find ways to make them all mesh together. I even buy rose scented linen spray and spray them once a week. I tell everyone "It's time to water the flowers!" Kind of crazy I admit.

  22. Beautiful, I love the contrast this added, I alos love how you can see white with wood stairs through the reflection of the mirror for added contrast. This room is magazine worthy. I would love a dining area like this.

  23. Killer job on the room...little ones are never quite conducive to decorating ways, but they grow so fast and soon you can do what you want. Enjoy her now - I actually love that you left the table top dark, in with the white - will give her credit for that - great job, Mom! Happy White Wednesday - Tanya

Gorgeous dinning room by the way. Just watched the movie "Please don't eat the Daises" with Doris Day and your dinning room reminded me of her home toward the end of the movie.
