Today while the house was actually totally and completely cleaned (with three kids I imagine this won't last more than a day if I am lucky) I decided to get some pictures of my new (new to me, but used from Craigslist) pink curtains.
And while I was at it I decided to get some different angles so you can actually get an idea of how my dining room and living room are connected.
Ignore the large black box in the corner! I am on the hunt for an armoire but as usual I am hoping for something perfect to fall into my lap (or at least free or crazy cheap if it is something I am going to have to paint) This is the first time I have had a TV in my living room in years. The kids got a WII for Christmas from pappaw, so they had to have some place to play it. (Ok, I admit, the adults have had some fun with the WII too!)
The sofa was a free find on Craigslist. I do ♥ Craigslist! But I am going to have to tackle reupholstering it at some point. Plus, I still haven't exactly decided if I want this sofa or the French Provincial one I have in my garage. I play musical sofa's.....a LOT.
The china cabinet was a garage sale find last summer. $50....more than I usually like to spend on one item, but it is in near mint with glass shelves and a light inside. It totally had my name on it!
My favorite dress form. Yeahhhh I play musical dress forms too. Long story, but I will make it short...I bought a huge lot of dress forms for $200, kept two, sold the rest and made close to $500. I'll tell you the whole story sometime!
See the chandelier at the front here.....let me be honest.....it's plastic. No, really, I swear! But don't tell anyone!
This is the current mantel. Finally FINALLY gone is all the Christmas gobbledeegook.
My favorite chairs in the whole house. I searched and searched for months for chairs like these. Then one day at the Outlet they were in a corner...screaming "Hey, take us home!! We are only $8 each. The ones you liked online were $500 each. You can't pass that up! Shove us in your car and take us home NOW!"
The table in the center is marble, made in Italy. I bought it along with a smaller one from Craigslist $20 for both! Then I went back and bought an entire garage full for $200 from the same person because he had such great things. Of course I resold most of it and kept a few pieces.
I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out especially considering it is almost all thrift store/yard sale/trash finds so I didn't spend a fortune. Now all I need to do is decide.....do I want to take the Frenchy Blue/Grey into the living room too, try a different color (and if so which one?) or just leave it alone??

Ok I have to admit my jaw hit the floor a few times reading what you found and paid for your furniture! Can I shop with you? :-)
I play musical furniture all the time! Hubby says that is why he has to always turn lights on before he enters a room! lol
Enjoyed my visit,

@Crystal
ReplyDeleteI think I should write (type) a tutorial on how to find deals! I have a couple of local thrift stores that know me by name and when I go in I ask them what they have in back for me. They cut me pretty good deals. It's good to get on a first name basis with your local thrifts!!
Thank you Crystal!!
@Dolly
ReplyDeleteIf you ever make your way to Indiana drop me a line! I am more than happy to take people out to my local thrift haunts and share the best places!
@Alison
ReplyDeleteThe curtains are Shabby Chic brand from Target. I drooled on them when I saw them there but couldn't afford them. Shortly after I was lucky enough to find them on Craigslist. I had to make a few sales to come up with the cash but it was still sooo much cheaper than buying them new. I was hugging them on the ride home after i bought them!
Thanks for following Alison!!
wowzers your home is stunning!!! Book marking you now so I cane can back asap!!

You certainly have a gift for finding bargains! I've always believed given enough time and effort, a person could furnish a whole house inexpensivly from garage sales, craig's list, flea markets, etc. and you are proof of that theory. Everything is beautiful and I'm your newest follower.

ReplyDeleteYour home is gorgeous, my friend! You have some really beautiful pieces and got such great deals on them! That makes them even sweeter...love it! I really do like the bluish gray walls in your dining room...that's a lovely color! I think it would look superb to carry that same color into your living room! It would really make the dining room and living room seem more like one...really large room...I would like that. Not sure if that is the look that you are going for though! Best wishes with your decision and thank you for sharing your gorgeous home with us!
